The 2004 USAPL Collegiate Nationals took place on Friday April 23, Saturday April 24, and Sunday April 25th. Friday was the first day of lifting and it proved to be a tough day as there were a lot of misses. Kitty Dalton (Ashland University) in only her second meet ever went 1 for 3 in the squat, coming up with an amazing 286 but was red lighted for depth. She finished squat with a 248. She failed to get a bench press eventhough she moved all three atempts with ease. Huge numbers can be expected from Dalton in the near future. Then came the one, the only Caleb Williams (College of Wooster) who had a bad meet himself, yet still won the 148 class with an amazing 374lb. spread from second place. Williams went 1 for 3 in the squat, getting 655 on a second. On his third attempt, Williams tried an amazing 694 for a new junior world record and open american record. The attempt came half way up and just barely stalled out. It is a squat that he will be getting very soon. Caleb went 3 for 3 in the bench finishing with 407. In the deadlift, Williams was red lighted after locking out 600 because of a hitch call. He finished deadlift with 562.

Saturday at 8am came the 165lb. men. Josh Rohr (Ashland University) went 3 for 3 in the squat, finishing with 562. Josh then went 2 for 3 in the bench, finishing with 314. Heading into the deadlift, he was down 66lbs. There he went 3 for 3, finishing with an awesome 606 pull for the win. Later in the afternoon came younger sister Jenn Rohr (Ashland University) in the 148lb. class. Jenn went 2 for 3 in the squat, finishing with a very easy 231 on her third attempt. In the bench press, she went 1 for 3, finishing with 93lbs. Jenn locked out 110 and 115 on her second and third, but both were red lighted. She came back in the deadlift, going 2 for 3, finishing with an awesome 275 pull that won her a pizza from teammate Pat Holland. Jenn finished 8th in a very tough 148 lb. class.

Then came Sunday, a day that would showcase four ohio lifters, all of whom would place in the top five. Starting out the lifting for Ohio on Sunday was Jeremy Hartman (Bowling Green) in the 220 class. Hartman, the favorite to win the class injured his hamstring warming up for the squat. Showing what a competitor he is, Hartman decided to go ahead and compete. He went 1 for 3 in the squat, finishing with 633. In the bench, Hartman also went 1 for 3, finishing with 457 on his second attempt. Hartman came back in the deadlift, going 3 for 3, finishing with 655 on an injured hamstring! That was enough for Hartman to secure the win. Just imagine what he can do with two good legs! The next flight showcased Tiffany Sommers (Ashland University) in the 181 class. Sommers went 2 for 3 in the squat, finishing with 385. She also went 2 for 3 in the bench, hitting a PR 181 on her second. She just missed 198 on her third. Sommers went 1 for 3 in the deadlift, finishing with a 347. Overall, Sommers finished 3rd in the 181 class. Also in this flight was Steph Dzurnak (Ashland University) in the 198+ class. Dzurnak went 2 for 3 in the squat, finishing with 336. This was without the assistance of a squat suit. In the bench press, Dzurnak went 2 for 3, hitting a 231 on her second. Her third attempt was amazingly close at 248lbs. but she just couldn't quite lock it out. In the deadlift, she went 1 for 3 finishing with 314. Overall, she placed 4th. Finishing out the day was Pat Holland (Ashland University) in the SHW class. Holland went 1 for 3 in the squat, getting his opener at 606lbs. Holland hurt his back on his first attempt but came all the way up with 650 on his third, only to get redlighted for not fully locking out. In the bench, Holland went 1 for 3, finishing with his opener of 429, a weight that was incredibly easy for him. In the deadlift, he went 2 for 3, finishing with 523 and a solid 3rd place overall finish.
